Trans cooler fitting size

What threads are these fittings? (circled in red)

They are NOT 1/4" NPT or NPS like I had ordered from reading bad threads

Best Ive found is they are the same as brake fittings except I cant find the specific thread size for them either

Re: Trans cooler fitting size

They are not listed by thread size. They are tube flare fittings. If you want to adapt them to hose or pipe, you need to find adapters for 5/16 flared tube.(they may be 3/8 tube, dont remember for sure)

Lol, see you tried 1/4 pipe. Close but no cigar. Try a good hardware store like Ace True Value. They usually have a good selection of flare fitting to pipe adapters. Are you going to braided stainless? A good hydraulic shop might have the flare to 45degree fittings youll need. Ive found them there before.

More bad info. 1/4" NPT is too big and the thread count is way off as it is. 5/16" would be beyond huge

Tube size is 5/16". Ill check out the local ACE and the nearby hydraulic shop, but to have a thread size to search summit for would be nice. Yes this is for a braided SS setup. Strange how fittings are super common for the trans side, but absolutely nothing is advertised for the cooler or the radiator

Re: Trans cooler fitting size

They are 5/16" inverted flare. Same fitting size you'd get for the trans end of the same lines. Super common. Also fits alot of old carbs. Shouldn't be any trouble at all to find, although probably not at a harware store.

Try CarQuest. That's where I got mine. Don't remember the size though.

Re: Trans cooler fitting size

They are the same thread size as the trans end. Thats right, 5/16 inverted flare. Here in Portland we have Oil Filter Service which specializes in racing fluid systems. They would have an adapter that would go from the inverted flair to AN 8 for your braided line. Does Summit have these adapters? Seems like they would but you may have to call their tech line and ask.

BTW, to anyone wondering, a real harware store, like a well run True Value will have a much greater selection of automotive fittings and fasteners than most any auto parts store. Most auto parts stores have deteriorated to selling more custom floor mats and plastic wheel covers than fittings and fasteners. Parkrose True Value Hardware in NE Portland has any fitting, aside from AN, and any fastener you could ever imagine. And if they dont have it theyll find it for you.

Re: Trans cooler fitting size

Is this on a stock radiator? I always assumed that the fittings were the same size as the ones on the trans (which would be the 5/16 inverted).
