T-5 lower shifter boot dimensions
hey everyone,
i'm gathering up parts for my t-5 swap and, as all of you probably know, the lower rubber shifter boot is discontinued and almost impossible to attain (atleast in good usable condition). does anyone have the dimensions of the boot so i can size it up with aftermarket ones or one from a fourth gen...maybe even a second gen boot?
Thank you!

Re: T-5 lower shifter boot dimensions
I just finished my swap. I used a MR GASKET generic replacement shifter boot from ADVANCE. The only problem with it was that it barely covered the hole that I cut... so you have to measure carefully and cut even more carefully.
Ideally, looking back on it, I probably could have found one that was a little bit larger than the one I got.

Re: T-5 lower shifter boot dimensions
The boot on the left is a stock thirdgen T5 boot. The boot on the right is a 4th gen T56 boot. As you can see they're pretty close to the same size, but the T5 boot is a little larger by about 1/4-1/2". Given the choice I'd probably go with the T5 boot. Since you're doing a conversion, it doesn't really have to be the exact right boot. The stock thirdgen boot is relatively flat. Look for manual transmission cars in the junkyard and you should be able to find something that will work.

Funny how mine has been that way for several years and hasn't had any of those problems. Stop using cheap ducttape

Maybe carbon dioxide exposure has already impaired your judgement? It'd explain more then a few things...
There are right and wrong ways to do any job. If you want to half *** a job because you're too cheap or lazy to do it correctly, that's up to you. But when you make stupid suggestions on a public forum, expect to be called out on it.

Re: T-5 lower shifter boot dimensions
thank you all for the advise! Thank you, drew, for posting pics and dimensions. very helpful! despite me wanting to be as close to factory as possible i may just go with a fourth gen boot since it's so close and i need to cut the trans tunnel anyway.
one final question: is there a gasket between the lower shifter boot and the trans tunnel?

Re: T-5 lower shifter boot dimensions
You might also want to check into the 4th gen 5spd boot. The 4th gen T5 boot is 10267519. The 4th gen T56 boot is 10267518. It looks like they might still be available new from the dealers. Otherwise, it shouldn't be too hard to find a 6cyl 5spd car in a salvage yard to donate a boot.
The stock boot is rubber molded over a metal ring. When it's bolted down the rubber seals to the car.

Re: T-5 lower shifter boot dimensions
Well, I'm typically not a fan of ghetto fab, but I found some sort of piece at lowes in the gutter/roofing section that I swear could be a shift boot. I mean it's scary how similar it was.
It fit perfectly, and with the metal flashing around the edge, the self tapping metal screws made a nice snug secure fit. I ran a bead of RTV just to be extra careful, but I don't feel it was necessary. I just cut out an X in the top and I was in business. Now, it was just dumb luck that it fit, and I cut the shifter hole during my swap so I don't know how big a factory hole would be. May or may not work.

Re: T-5 lower shifter boot dimensions
I went to Lowe's the other day and looked at the part you mentioned in person. Looks like it'll do the job nicely. When I get my manual, I'll be picking one of those up for sure. Thanks for the info on 'em; it looks like it'll work as well as the stocker would have.
