shift linkage cable removal/disconnection?

Pulling trans and its probably a dumb question but how do I disconnect the shift linkage cable from the transmission, just being really cautious about everything...I can't afford another mistake..

You have a 13mm nut that connects the linkage to the tranny gear selector. Then you have 2, 10mm bolts that hold the shifter bracket and pass thru the trans pan. Remove all these and your speed sensor wires.

Re: shift linkage cable removal/disconnection?

Got the trans out, and actually all 3 bolts were 13mm on mine, but how do I know what position to reinstall the selector in to match the shifter in the car?

Put the shifter and the shaft on the transmission both in neutral and then bolt up the cable.

Re: shift linkage cable removal/disconnection?

How exactly do I know if the shaft on the trans is in neutral or not? I'm pretty green when it comes to transmissions...

Um...still need more specific, the thing moved god knows how many times when I was unbolting it, do the spots on it correlate directly with the console shifter, like all the way forward with the linkage on trans is park? and all the way towards rear of car 1st?
