Re: T5 or T56

The Vortec engine is great, the t56 is good up to 450 horsepower stock, while the t5 is only rated at 300 HP stock. T56 also has an extra overdrive which will help out with your gas mileage. There are several threads if you do a search, of everything you need to swap to a t56 and the prices of those parts new.

Now I could be wrong, but from my understanding you do not need a new centerforce flywheel with the Vortec/86+ block because they are a 1-piece rear main seal. Could someone confirm this?

Re: T5 or T56

Could I build the T5 up or it still wouldn't compare to the T56? Would there be any mods that were needed for one vs the other

Re: T5 or T56

If you go with a t-56 your going to need new set of gears, 3.7x work well I find and you will also need a new crossmember.

With a t-5 you could upgrade it to the max with parts from G-Force, price would probably work out the same in the end though and not sure how much stronger it would be compared to the t-56 tranny.

^(parts list) but you don't need the flywheel because you have the vortec block.

Re: T5 or T56

What's involved coming from a t5 already to a LT1 style T56. I have searched, but haven't found an exact thread for my situation...
