Car: 1985 Firebird S/E
Engine: SBC 350, mild cam Vortec heads
Transmission: Rebuilt 700R4 vette servo+shift kit
Axle/Gears: 3.73
trans bad?

So i think my trans went tonight its and auto car and it was bucking in reverse. Now it wont take a gear at all. Any comments about the 700r4 trans i found one for sale cheap out of an 89 2500 should just drop right in correct? any help would be highly appreciated.

Axle/Gears: 3.42

you'll have to change over the torque arm mount.. and the gov... so your shift point will be right... im guess this is a 2 wheel drive

i am also guessing it was a 2wd truck how do i tell by look at the trans? prolly a dumb question but i never worked on trucks really

it should have a long tail shaft for a slip yoke.. 4x4 tranny's are setup to bolt to a transfer case

if it was for a 4x4 am i ****ed? or can i use the end from my blown tranny on the new one? or is it all one piece? not bolt on?

maybe I missed it but what year and powertrain is your car? I can tell you the pump, TC, speedos and tailshaft is different. You're better off buying a used unit from a similar app & year.

got the motor and trans as a package deal they came from a 1989 2500 i was told i have an 87 camaro currently a 305 tpi
update the sahft coming out of the trans is about 5 inches long and about 1inch diameter bad feeling this means its for a 4x4 anyone know

if anyone is still awake i can't sleep knoing i might be ****ed for a trans now i got it with the motor today and they guy wasnt at all interested in even giving me a little back for the trans what woud it cost on average to have the shaft taken out of the bad trans and put in the "good" one

you have to totally gut the trans and get donor parts from a good tranny your better off selling it and getting one from a camaro or firebird if u can find one.. you'll have more money in getting the work done and gettin donor parts... than its worth... sorry man
