86 V6 vs V8 700R4

Can someone confirm the difference in these to be a 1) bell housing connection at the very top of the case (missing on the V6 unit) and 2) a torque capacity difference? Both will install to either engine though?

1. Bell housings are all the same on the transmissions.
2. Torque capacities will be a bit higher starting in 1988 when they went to a larger input shaft or stator... can't remember which or it may be both.

The bellhousing bolt patterns are completely different, they won't interchange.

Sure about that chief? The 60* V6 bolt pattern is completely different than that of a 90* engine.

Sorry, I figured a 700R-4 was a 700R-4.

Lesson learned.

Re: 86 V6 vs V8 700R4

I was hoping to get back and claim he didn't specify it was a 2.8L so I could save some face. However I did learn that if the SeriesII 3800 -> Fiero plan doesn't turn out I can find one of the 90* cases and build a nice 3800 3rd gen.
