Swapping this transmission from my Camaro into my truck. I am going to be putting in a shift kit. With the kit I would like to install a new torque converter. So I am looking for a cheap performance one for around 150 bucks or so. I don't have much experience with this sort of thing so I figured I would ask. The truck is mostly driven around town between 30-50 mph if that helps. Also I would like to change the gears in the rear if anyone has any suggestion on that route. Thank you very much in advance and happy holidays!

you need to know if you have a 27 or 30 spline trans input shaft. if you have a 27 spline, pm me, i have a new 2600 stall unit from a very good maker.

I had one on my shelf for 6 months, and could not give it away. Finally hit the trash about 2 weeks ago.

Look into a converter from a 4.3l V6 S-10 pickup. Behind a 350, they stall at around 2000 - 2200, stock stall is only like 1300. Not a radical street or track converter, but makes a better street feel over stock. I bought mine about 4 years ago from GMPartsDirect.com and was about $150 shipped. If you search s-10 converter you'll see older threads on here about the specifics.

so if say i pulled a stock convertor out of a 4.3 S10 itd be about a 2000-2200 stall in our cars?

It will stall around the 2100 mark behind a basic 350 give or take. Stall depends on a variety of factors, and you can't simply say a converter will stall at a given rpm - there will always be some fluctuation, but pretty close. Search S-10 Converter here and you'll see the old threads about it. Old because not too many folks do it anymore - I guess they like spending more on new aftermarket brands - but in my book if it works the same and costs less, I'm there!

hmmm thats around the stall i wanna put in my car, hell if its cheaper why not. you say behind a basic 350 so would it be prolly the same for a 305?

Not 100% sure exactly how all that works, so I don't know. Probably be close - might wait to see if someone else chimes in, or do an internet search for how they stall and under what conditions

summit converters are made by TCI. They have a 12 inch converter with like a 2200 stall for 200 bucks. not a bad deal at all. I am running thier 2600 stall and I have had no problems with it.
