Whirring noise?
Whirring noise?
Well the best way i can describe it is more of a whirring noise when i step on the gas, i'm not able to hear it when driving around town but when i start to speed up it gets louder. I put the car on park and stepped on gas but no noise so any ideas? would a bad transmission mount make a "whirring" noise? I also change differential fluid and gasket but no luck
it sounds as though it's coming from the back which is why i originally thought differential.

Re: Whirring noise?
Bad transmission mount would thump the underside under heavy acceleration- I've had that before. So definitely not that.
I would have thought that a diff noise would be more constant- whether you are on or off gas. Could be rear bearings and as you are on gas it is putting more load on them and exposing the problem.

Re: Whirring noise?
It is a drive line issue. Could be U-joints or any bearing in the axle. Get under it and check the drive shaft first to see if there is any play.
U-joints usually squeak when they are going, whirring noises are usually differential bearings.
Oh, do you have a manual or auto? Manuals can do the same thing. Where does the noise come from, tranny tunnel area? Or towards the rear axle?

its an auto, and the noise appears as though it is coming from the rear axle, it'll start up when goin maybe 30ish it'll instantly stop when i let go of the gas, also if i happen to be on a bouncy road it'll somewhat stop when the car bounces up.
yeah thats what i was thinking about differential but it had been leaking anywho, it stopped the creaking noise though

Re: Whirring noise?
I had a WHIRRING noise before. It ended up being the needle bearings inside the U-Joint. There was little to no grease in there. I re-lubed and added some grease and the noise went away. But Bad bearings could be an issue too.

I have the same problem, but it's more of a high pitched moaning. It seems to come when my foot is on the gas, but as soon as I let off it goes away.
I was told the pinion bearings, but I don't know. Any ideas to what parts I need to order?

Re: Whirring noise?
Any ways. The reason why there is a sound while your accelerating is because of the energy or force being exerted on the culprit. As you let off the gas, there is no more pressure on the culprit, which leads me to believe that its probably the rear bearings or the U-joint. But its a shot in the dark. Could even be the axle. But for sure its behind the tranny.
