New trans rebuild =FAIL

My son and I rebuild the 700r4 for his 86 z. It doesn't work though. Rev. is like neutral. If I put in in drive it will move forward after bringing the rpms up quite a bit. It won't upshift when moving, and 1 2 & D are like nuetral. I'm going to try doing a pressure test later but the tachometer doesn't work. Any ideas?

If fluid level is ok than i would pull the trans out and go thru it again. but first check line pressure since you have no engagement at all. Another possibility although sorta unlikely did you install the torque convertor all the way??

It's kind of a tough thing to rebuild. you could have messed up something in the valve body, torque converter could be bad. really hard to say. I say bite the bullet and take it to the transmission shop.

How much fluid is in the transmission and torque converter now (total)? Which torque converter did you use here? Deep pan or standard pan? DO NOT rev it up to get it to move, as this will destroy the transmission.

I used the old torque converter which was still full. 7 quarts put it right in the middle of the ok zone on the dipstick. Shallow pan.

Re: New trans rebuild =FAIL

It failed the pressure test miserably. N& low were less than 10 psi and drive& rev. Were less than 14.
Pump?

Re: New trans rebuild =FAIL

Is it possible that the pump mods from the shift kit could have caused this ?

Boost valve was in the pan. Can't find c-clip.

C-clip was in the filter. Trans appears to work properly now.
