i thought it might be the linkage between the shifter and the transmission but that didnt work either. so i took off the transmission pan and found that even manually i cant get thge car to go into park so any ideas what would cause the trans not to go into park? the transmission was just rebuilt with no miles on it at all. jsut for some reason the pawl doesnt reach the dent for the park to engage


any ideas or anything would be helpful if you could help me out

cable/clip under console?...happened in my 85 442 back in the day...i know you tried manually,but not sure where you tried it from...

 

i went to the transmission it self and tried to put it into park but the pawl is like its to long or the gear with the dents in it to select a gear isnt rolling all the way. saturday im climbing under it and if i cant figure it out imma take some pics nd post on here to see if any 1 can help with it

 

if the shop that rebuilt it (if a shop did rebuild it) has a warranty on their work, go to them and ask them to take a look at it. but check the area under the console first something couldve moved and gotten stuck in that area, if not take it in

 

the shop didnt rebuild it. i was playing with it today and its like the valve body has something blocking it from slipping into the park dent. i have pictures of it that ill be trying to upload soon

 

this is what it looks like when i try and push it into park. its like the gear wont rotate enough for it to reach park possition

 

ok so i crawled under the car yesterday and was playing around with it to see if i could find out why its not going into park. i did find me answer but i dont know how to fix it. in the picture im about to post there is a circle long rod/valve that connects to the gear by a a short little rod. well when i try to put it into park the valve hits the metal right infront of it (see picture to see what im talking about). so does any 1 know why its doing this and how to fix it?

 

I'm having the same problem... I haven't dropped the pan yet but the freakin thing will NOT go into park, even when I manually try to push it in under the car with the linkage disconnected.
