One Trans lines to radiator?????

OK, I know this can't be right. I just picked up a 86 iroc that has been converted to an older 350 with a carb.........Had it towed home this afternoon, while looking at what all I have to fix I noticed there is only ONE line from the trans going the radiator. The other hole in the radiator has been plugged off. I know the fluid has to be cooled thru the radiator then flow back to the trans. The car has been sitting for almost 2 years, the son of the guy that owns the car said after they drive a little while the trans stops working. WTH?

Re: One Trans lines to radiator?????

Is that line even connected to the tranny lines? sometimes people will bypass the radiator transmission cooler for an external cooler sometimes help on with the zipties thru the radiator fins. That's probably what the owner of your car did.

Never got under the car today. I'll crawl under it tomorrow. Didn't think about them by passing it. Thanks...

Got the car running today, put it in drive , nothing in any gear. Fluid is pink. Radiator may be screwed up, letting water leak into the trans fluid so that might be why they by passed it.

Re: One Trans lines to radiator?????

But did they unhook both lines or they left the return line and connected the pressure line? even though thier both under pressure technically...weird. a radiator is cheap change it out!

Put it up on jack stands this afternoon and pressure wash the bottom of the car. I'm going to change the fluid tomorrow and check the lines.

Re: One Trans lines to radiator?????

That is the 1-2 accumulator spring that is broken, maybe I think from the fuild color that the radiator is leaking into the cooler side on the radiator

Re: One Trans lines to radiator?????

yeah that is what it looks like (the fluid anyway). Change your radiator. I guess its possible if the car was sitting it could have gotten water in it but not too likely....
