Little detail: 91 rs stock T5 WC going out, won't stay in second. I just got a good 86 mustang 5.0 T5 WC #1352-169. Obviously the input/ output shafts differ between the two transmissions. I have limited funds, but would like to make these two trans into one good working trans for my camaro. Anyone have any suggestions? Preferably the easiest way. I have full access to tools and a lift. And experienced enough to tear apart the insides need be.

 

I would start by getting a instruction manual for rebuilding a t5, but if I had to guess what you will need to do, probably swap most of the guts from the mustang t5 into the camaro t5's bellhousing, and use the camaro input and output splineshafts, though it might be more complicated than that, hence I suggest getting a rebuild book, or contact a transmission shop/specialist and ask them, dana at probuilt could most likely tell you what it will take. I've never spoke with him, but I see a lot of people get referred to him for transmission questions and such.

 

You're going to use the vast majority of parts from the Camaro box to rebuild it unless the differently ratio'd Mustang box has the same tooth count 2nd gear. As for rebuilding it, a basic refresh kit is going to be what you'll want to put in it but if you don't have all the other needed parts in the Mustang box, you'll then pay shipping twice getting the parts you need.

So... download the manual from TTC's site, tear the Camaro box down to see what it needs, grab 2nd & the 1-2 synchro from the Camaro box if it matches and is good and rebuild the Camaro box.
