I have a TH700 transmission from my old '87 chevy pickup and I have put it in my '72 chevy pickup with a 350 motor, but it won't shift only have reverse and 1st gear, any ideas on what it could be? It worked fine in when I took it out of the '87.

 

Are the 2 trucks geared drastically differently? ( rear axle ) Is the Throttle Valve cable adjusted properly?

 

You connected the TV cable up correctly and set the adjustment on it? www.thirdgen.org/detent

 

@Ronnjonn, we put the real axles from the newer one in the older one with the th700 transmission.
@camaronewbie, as far as we can tell.

 

Just a guess, but I had this happen after a hard shift from 1st to 2nd years ago. There was a plastic gear in the back of the 700R4 that had broken. IIRC, there is a round cover on the back to pry off, and check. See if that plastic gear is broken...
