Wires haning from bottom (Pics)
Hi,
I found multiple wires haning from the bottom both of them are ripped and wires are showing. One is ripped in half im pretty sure their there for a reason so I was wandering if anyone could tell me what they were. Also my shifter I think is a little messed up. The rubber piece is broken and its being held on by zip ties so its a little wobbly. By shifter I mean the thing underneath the car its like a rod with a rubber shock on it. I was wandering if this was an urgent fix?
1st pic wires so is the 2nd. The third is where the one came out of, I cant find where the other one goes. If you look its to the right of the pic its a little blurry but you can still see where it came out of. There is also no where to put my speedo why is this and where should it go?
Thank you for the help!

Re: Wires haning from bottom (Pics)
Thats really weird then because I have a speedo cable and if your correct on that then I will also have a speedo wire. How is that even possible!? So whats a transmission tourque converter lockup wire, and how important is it? (im replacing either way just trying to learn about my car). One of the wires in the first pic is the one that goes into that houseing. Could this possible mean a newer trans was put in my car? If you read about my car I dont know how to find out my transmission lol. Its an 88 though so why it would have 90 ^ parts is wierd unless previous owner had something to do with it.

I would think a Previous Owner somewhere along the line did some things to it.
IDK all the ECM // ECU stuff, maybe the wires have something to do with a buffer box-to-vss..????..
Our 700R4 doesn't have electric lock up, has been fine for 4 yrs of spring // summer driving. IDK if it's bad for it or not!!

Re: Wires haning from bottom (Pics)
if you have a speedo cable, it's NOT hooked up to the trans, cuz it attaches right where the 3rd picture is, and someone has changed the trans to one that doesn't operate a cable. The 3rd pic is of an electronic speedo sender. I imagine the wires go to that. I also imagine your speedo doesn't work. If your car has a cable, you will need to remove the trans tail, the metal speedo reluctor ring and install speedo gears and speedo gear housing to drive the cable. Hope that helps

I was going to follow the wires to where they lead maybe they have my car setup differently. When I first got it everything was rigged up, so I woudn't see why this would be any different haha. But then again it is a cable driven speedo so I don't even know how an electric one would work.
So whats the price range of the procedure your talking about? Would it be cheaper just to by a electronic cluster panel and do it that way? ( almost all my gauges don't work, This old school cluster panel is my favorite though). Im pretty much just asking alternatives. you can list them and I will research them for prices and all that.

if there is a cable down there, hook up a battery powered reversible drill to the cable itself as if it were a drillbit, the hit the trigger, see if the speedo works. Try both directions. If it does, yes you need someone to install speedo gears. You have to remove the driveshaft, undo the torque arm from the tail housing and remove the tail housing. It might even be easier if you pull the small crossmember to get a little more room, but not necessarily. The metal gears can be a **** to get off sometimes, -- you could hack saw through it a ways front to back, then smack it with a chisel to crack it, and then it will slide right off. Then you need all the nylon gear parts, the clip, the speedo housing and retainer from a donor trans, or go to

and buy the ones you think you need --- probably call them for help. The chart will get you close to the right ratio, but I have had it be wrong before. I use a GPS to verify speed and have extra gears of different teeth to fine tune the speedo.
I suppose it is possible someone has put in an electronic cluster -- but I imagine the wires would look added on instead of factory.
Dollar-wise, I would say it would be probably around the same cash to convert to an electronic cluster, but better to hang on to the mechanical speedo and get the gears because then the car is still original, and it's a lot less headache to make it that way then change what has already been designed by GM for that year.
Just my .02.....
what are the wire colors anyway? and year, make, model, engine size? I have wiring diagrams available to me.

Re: Wires haning from bottom (Pics)
I own the haynes manual so I have some wiring diagrams also. Although its kind of hard for me to understand. Im not to good with wiring diagrams but could learn lol. Its and 1988 camaro, not sure what kind. looks like a z28 was sold to me like that, title says sport coupe but that doesn't matter apparently, I don't have any badges on it either so Idk what it is. all I know is its a camaro and I'm happy with that. Especially for how good it sounds now that I did all this work to it... I figured out the engine is a 305 but it has 350 TPI heads in it thats all the further I went engine wise. Its an F car and the wire colors were purpler and green, and they were bright purple and green. They seem to be going somewhere there just cut in half so I was going to track them down to where they went see whats going on.
If you could help me with the wiring diagram that would help a lot to because there is wires that are not plugged into anything but they are supposed to be.

Re: Wires haning from bottom (Pics)
on 87,88,& 89 cars, they all show cable driven, speed sensor on backside of speedo head. My 86 that's here I can look at only has a cable. Have you tried the drill on the cable thingy??
The wires to the TCC (that plug into the LH middle of the trans) show to be tan/black, light blue, and purple -- is there anything plugged into the connector on the trans, just behind and slightly above the shift shaft??
