Hey guys was wondering if you knew what kind of transmission fluid to put in my 87 irocz camaro 305 5.0 standard transmission? Just got it and I wanna change the fluid 130xxx original miles.

 

u use gear oil if im not mistaken. 80w90 if im not mistaken as well lol

 

Every T5 I've seen has had ATF in it, including the earlier NWC design. I have ATF in mine.

Atf is for automatics? Mines a stick shift.

 

No, LB9 is the GM RPO code for the 305 TPI motor. I recommend you read the sticky threads and do some searches. Welcome to the forum.

 

Hmm. Ya pretty new here thanks man. I will definately look into those.

 

My 85 shop manual calls for ATF for my T-5. The T-5 sticky at the top of the page will provide insight and/or confusion to the whole "what fluid does my T-5 use."

So my dad and I drained the transmission and he said it smelled like gear oil. Said he'd be able to recognize when we drained it. I told him that I had read that that it would shift smoother with atf so that's what were going with.

 

Valvoline dexron is what we got.

 

considering ATF is mentioned in this thread lol... My dipstick says to use dex II but the computerat work says to use dex VI. What should I use? D:

 

I used VI seems to be holding up fine.
