I would suggest using a new cable. As old as your trans was so was that cable. They do stretch and their cheap enough. As for adjustment the post about torque converter install/trans replacement tells how to basically adjust it.

agreed with rs 4 us but fyi if your not looking to read up real quick take a pair of pliers and push the adjustment button on the side, and while depressed take your left hand and open the throttle full. it should ratchet out to the correct setting. fyi
BTW do it while the car is off man!

Re: New tranny old tv cable
ive seen posts on this site that the aftermarket tv cables are crap.on a tbi to adjust the tv cable you just have to hit the release button at the tbi unit and then open the throttle wide open to set the cable.i don't know about tpis but it may be simuler.

you should be able to pick one up at your local parts store. Preferablly one that's already assembled. Just make sure its the correct length, match it up to your old one.

Re: New tranny old tv cable
Help us all understand here...
You just spent ..... how much ..... $800? $1000? $1500? ..... on a transmission.
A TV cable costs like $20 or something and takes a matter of seconds to set (NOT "adjust").
If the cable is not operating and set correctly, it can smoke your new trans in a matter of a few hundred miles.
How is it a good idea to use the old cable, AND half-azz the setting?
Now I'll freely grant you, I'm not the brightest bulb on the string; but I'm REALLY struggling with figuring that one out. It's beyond the reach of my limited smarts. Please educate me.

Re: New tranny old tv cable
I just got my trans redone cost me $1k. I wanted a new TV cable and I got one. Didn't get the old one back so I couldn't check it but nonetheless I put the trans in and got it all buttoned up and went to hook up the cable...WHAAATTT???? IT DOESN'T FIT???? ITS TOO SHORT????? TRANS REBUILDER DIDN'T CHECK IT EITHER???
needless to say I was pissed...wasted alot of time taking the new cable out, and could not find a new replacement cable that was the correct length. Even through the transmission rebuilder supplier. The guy that redid my trans did keep my old one and even he had trouble finding the correct cable. I wound up reusing my old cable.
