700R4 problems

i have a 700r4 trans and it leaks on the passenger side when it sits. ive repalced all the seals trans gasket and filter, dipstick tube seal and the TV cable seal i still lose about a 1 quart in a week or less. Any ideas?

I also have another 700r4 and it doesnt shift from 3-4 very well. I have to feather it to get it into 4th. any thoughts?

Thanks for any and all help

Re: 700R4 problems

Need a little more specific than passenger side, if its leaking down the transmission from somewhere up top, you may be overfilling it. Also, can you be more specific about what "all" the seals entails, because you may not have actually replaced them all.

On the 2nd one, start with a tv cable adjustment, if its still having the issue, I would check that the valvebody doesn't have a sticking valve.

Re: 700R4 problems

by the seals i mean the front and rear dipstick tube and the tv cable housing. the drip looks like it might be coming fromthe pan gasket again. ive tried adjusting the tv cable again on the other one and it still does the same thing. thanks for the help

Re: 700R4 problems

Check the lines going to the radiator/cooler from the side of the tranny. When I first got mine, this is where it leaked. I replaced the lines with rubber transmission hose (yes people will argue against it), new fittings and never had a problem again.

Re: 700R4 problems

You must get back under the car with rags and a can of brake clean and maybe goggles. Now spray and wipe spray and wipe. Then let it sit and after a while get back under the car and find out exactly were that leak is coming from so you can fix it.

Re: 700R4 problems

grab some cardboard "longer is better" and cover the ground with it where the leak is suspected after you have cleaned. This will show you exactly where its dripping, just chase it up. If its on the passenger side its gotta be your dipstick tube, trans lines, or pan gasket. Nothing else on that side besides a crack would allow it to leak.

Re: 700R4 problems

Before pulling the transmission get under again and look around has the trans been dropped on the concrete or what.

Re: 700R4 problems

I change one in the snow because I had a hot date and it was my dd. I don't blame you for laying low, my hands were so cold when I was done I thought I would get frostbite. Let us know how it turns out after the thaw.
