Will this 9" work?
3400 lb car, ~500 rwhp eventually, footbrake launching to a (eventually) 10.99
here's the center section I'm looking at. http://www.ebay.com/itm/Ford-9-Third...sories&vxp=mtr
I keep seeing conflicting numbers on how far you can go on a stock housing and support, some say itll break at 400rwhp, others say they've been running a stock housing for years hitting it with a transbrake all day long with 9 second ET's...

It will be fine! Many have went that fast or faster on a stock 10 bolt!

Re: Will this 9" work?
Hard to tell but it's probably a typical C7AWE case. I pushed one into the mid 9's then pulled it apart to fix a leak and discovered the pilot bearing support was cracked and about to fail. I saw an 11 second pickup truck spit out a 9" pinion shaft on the starting line when the support broke off. There's no guarantee when a stock case will fail but it will eventually fail.

Well I ordered this up this a.m.! I need to find out how far I can narrow the axle before brake brackets run into LCA brackets, and tires run into LCA's, then I'll order up a housing.

The picture is a generic photo just showing what type of parts will be used & look like. The gearset will have a good pattern & I stand behind my work as my feedback will show.

Well, that's good to know! Good luck with it man.
It will surely be stronger than your 10-bolt. Custom making the housing?

Re: Will this 9" work?
Ask him how much it would cost to upgrade to a nodular case and a Daytona pinion housing. If you go that way you wouldn't have to worry about it and you wouldn't be spending more money on it later if you wanted to go faster.
