9 bolt gear oil

I did a search and I see the BW 9 bolt does not get the posi additive. I also found the GM part number for the gear oil 1050010. I haven't found that part number being sold, but did see a post stating that that GM has since changed the part number to 89021671? Anyone have any info on the correct part number for the BW 9 bolt...Thanks

Re: 9 bolt gear oil

Just go to the store and get some gear oil. You don't need to get it from GM. Not something to outsmart yourself over.

Personally I prefer Mobil 1.

Re: 9 bolt gear oil

I use mobil one in the rear, the motor (including filter), and the trans. I even use it in my lawn mower.

Re: 9 bolt gear oil

The GM Firebird service manual states to use the additive. This is stated in both the section on 10 bolt and the section on the 9 bolt.

Re: 9 bolt gear oil

regular gear oil is fine. it uses cones (metal on metal to give you anti slip). there is no clutch material so no need to use friction modifiers. if you think you need to use the additive you can it wont hurt it but its not "needed"

synthetic is ok too.
