TH-350 Driveshaft Question

I am switching from TH-350 to a 700-R4 for economy reasons. The parts i have are as follows

700-R4 from an 86 IROC

Kick down cable for a 4bbl

700-R4 Flywheel

and the tranny mount for the R4

Now my question is, Is the drive shaft from the 350 going to have the same spline as the 700-r4? If it does fit. what other kinds of issues could i encounter?

This is my daily driver so i dont want this to get hung up.

Re: TH-350 Driveshaft Question

The front yoke is the same between the 700R4 and TH350. The driveshaft will need to be either replaced or shortened.

Re: TH-350 Driveshaft Question

If your TH350 has the short tail shaft the drive shaft will need to be shortened but if it has the 9inch tail shaft it will work with no modification.

If it is the OEM TH350 that came in the '82 cars, it will be the short tail version.

I think that you may also require the shorter torque arm.

I just measured it. its a 6inch

Now why do i have to have shorter Hardware if its not a long tailshaft?

the 700R4 is longer than the TH350 with the 6" tail housing which means it uses a shorter driveshaft. the torque arm is also shorter for the 700R4 unless a change over kit was used to install the TH350 in place of the 700 to begin with.
