Now how do I get the arm off the shaft or do I have to take the transmission out and do this work from the inside?

Look at it with a mean eye. It'll jump right off.

I did see that but how do u get the shaft to not move because it kept trying to spin and it felt as thow it was going to brake something. Will I need to disconnect the shifter cable then remove the nut?

disconnect the shift cable bits.
grab it with pliers
unbolt it
wiggle it off
grab it with pliers
unbolt it
wiggle it off
