Need Help picking a Stall, and front coil springs - Need help TONIGHT!!!
Hey guys, one of my first post ever hear. I have an 87' Berlinetta and an 89' RS. Have some questions for the RS-
This being the only auto out of 7 vehicles i own, im not to big into them. Im a manual guy but this car has a brand new/built/shift kitted 700r4 that im leaving in it.
Details on the car - It was completley gutted when i bought it, interior is gone etc. It has a mildly built 350, aluminum heads, carbed etc, big cam- powerband is roughly 2,700-6,500. Car has 3:73`s and a Posi. New front struts, all the wiring, A/C, everything is gone except the bare nessessitys for a carbed 350. Im guessing the car now weighs in the area of 2,800lbs? Need to look up the curb weight. The transmission is an earlier 27 splin model, that has the manual lockup inside the trans. NO ELECTRONICS.
So with roughly 350rwhp, 2,800lbs, 3:73`s, what stall would you go with? 2,500? It is a DD car, and i dont want any trans heating issues.. Need help here guys. WHAT SIZE STALL!
Next question, with all this weight shaved off it looks like a 4x4 so i need to bring it back down to earth. Im thinking a set of new v6 springs might do the trick? WHadya think?
Also what kind of track times can i roughly expect? I have a 500rwhp 04 GTO so its going to seam slow either way lol

For a daily driver I would say 2, 300 stall would be fine.
As far as springs, not sure that the amount of weight loss you are saying would cause it to increase rids height. I wonder if they have been changed out for a higher ride?

Well with no interior, nothing under the hood but radiator and engine, aluminum heads/intake, fiberglass hood etc it has alot off it. I want max performance at the strip though, i was thinking atleast a 2,500 stall but i dont know....

You probably wouldn't notice a difference between 2, 300 or 2, 500...
If 2, 500 is what you want, I say go for it.
I have 2, 300 and don't notice much difference from stock.

You'll notice 3, 000 or more. Shouldn't harm the trans in that range. May become annoying for a daily driver though. That is a lot of rpms on a daily basis to get your car moving. A stock stall is around 1, 500 or so. You will double that.
It will feel a little like riding the clutch to get moving.
I suggest you drive a buddies car with that high of a stall before you choose it for a daily driver.

Oh, and a transmission cooler is a must regardless of what size converter you pick. I wouldn't even think about buying an aftermarket converter without a cooler installed.

If your going to get a convertor, yank or vigilante come to mind, quality and warrenty. If its street deiven the consensus for the most part is right around 2800. As with what was posted here, with a quality convertor 2800 stall is driveable, compared to the run of the mill summit $200 garbage from tci or b&m.Spend the mony here. Well worthy upgrade.

To make the most of the auto, spend the money on a good converter. Precision Industries, Yank, Circle D... I would suggest a 3200, even for a DD. Trans cooler is a must but u can run a fairly loose converter in a DD with no issues at all! The 4thgen guys run em all day behind the LS setups. And remember, with the lockup, running down the interstate will be no different from a stock converter. Talk to Jack at PI! He's awesome to deal with and will set u up with one of their 9.5" diam converters.
