What I need to mate a 1970 350 to my 700r4

Hey,
So I've started my first engine swap...a 1970 350 into my 1992 Camaro RS.
I'm wondering what, if anything I'll need to make the 350 and 700r4 work together. I know that the 350 is a two piece rear main seal, and the 305 that was original to the car is a one piece. From what I've looked up that means that the flywheel would need to be changed. Is that the only change I need to make? Also do I need to use a 168 or 153 tooth flywheel?

I'd like to buy a new aftermarket one, so would I need a 168 or 153 tooth flywheel?

85 Camaro

Only size there is for that car

Happens to have 153 teeth

Don't worry about the teeth, get the one for 83-85 Camaro V8

Ok, thanks for the info. I still plan to get an aftermarket one. What's so special about the 83-85 Camaro one?

83-85 was 2 piece rear main and 700r4 converter pattern.

Re: What I need to mate a 1970 350 to my 700r4

Not intending to hijack, I'm in the same boat, kind of. Installed a 350 into my 82 T/A with the stock trans, and of course the trans died. At some point the rear end was replaced and think I ended up with Firebird gears. The reason I say that is that at 65 mph i'm at 3500rpm, and it just doesn't feel right. So I will be looking to go 700R4 as well. I will heed your advice about the 85 flexplate, but what is it about using the right bolts? What other advice would you lend to myself and BigRogZ28 about the drive shaft and install?

I'm going with a 3.73 rear end for cruising, best gas mileage, no racing, but having the speed should I have a momentary lapse? lol
Will be doing a ground up restoration. Thanks guys!

Kevin

Re: What I need to mate a 1970 350 to my 700r4

i think TTOP350 may be talking about the bolts that mount the torque converter to the flexplate;they have metric thread and IIRC a little spot of plastic on the threads as a thread lock.700r4 swap into '82 is easy-use parts from 700r4 third, will have to drill one new hole, add nut to one existing hole to mount later 700r4 crossmember.I like 3.42 gears with my 700r4/torque biased 350,3.73 gears are usually thought to be a little deep with 700r4s low 1st gear.
