Good 700R4 rebuild kit ?
Hey guys,
I dont really know much about auto boxes, its not something i want to get involved with, all i do is change the fluid and filter so i was thinking of sending the car to an auto trans specialist near me later in the year to get it rebuilt.
Theres nothing wrong with it, it changes smoothly but im just sort of planning for the long term as i dont want to get rid of the car and want it to last.
Is there a good kit you can buy with all the bits needed to rebuild the auto trans ? im not looking for anything mega expensive which upgrades it to handle like 600bhp or anything, just something that will endure the test of time and if i feel like flooring it, it can take it no problem

Being that decent kits run several hundred dollars I would just keep on using it until problems develop.
I like Pro-Built but their kits are $600 for the entry level ones up to around $900.

yeah pretty expensive then. ive heard even for a standard rebuild if the trans goes wrong is expensive anyway.
Can you tell me what the shift kits are for, they seem relativley cheap, are they worth installing ?
Thanks,
Scott

More expensive one yes. If you have a working transmission in good condition. Some people think if they put them in a slipping transmission it will fix it, which is not correct. They can provide things like holding a gear at any speed, more line pressure, firmer shifts, and etc.
I've owned both the B&M and Transgo kit. B&M was cheaper but did not do anything besides making 1/2 and 2/3 neck snapping hard at all throttle positions. Sure fun for a week or two but about spinning out in the rain during city driving got old.
The Transgo kit is what I have now along with some probuilt mods. My transmission has survived 7000 rpm shifts on the street. Transgo has far more advantages than the B&M.

While the kits from 4L60E.com may seem expensive at first glance, they're actually cheaper than a lot of kits that have just your run-of-the-mill, stock replacement parts. I had my 700r4 rebuilt by a local trans shop where the guy has a stellar reputation for doing quality rebuilds. I bought the rebuild kit from 4L60E.com, and the local guy was dumbfounded at how cheap of price I paid for the parts! He was amazed that the kit had top quality parts, and said he couldn't match the price with his own discount through his suppliers. The high-performance, street kit is around $600, but since you're looking for a more stock rebuild, they also offer the "heavy-duty" rebuild kit for about $530 last time I looked. That cost doesn't include a torque converter. If you're looking for a decent converter for a good price, go online and look up Roadrunner Converters in Arizona. I paid about $150 for one that's rated at 2600 stall speed, and it works very well.

Cool thanks Pat, thats the kinda thing im looking for which is great.
Something thats going to last for years to come, and if i wanna do a burnout or floor it now and then i dont have to worry etc, otherwise its just normal driving
I cant actually get anything when i type in 4L60E.com though ?

Hey guys, this is great information for anyone looking to rebuild trannies. What do you think of the kits offered by TCI through summit? They seem to have good prices for their Master Race (27 spline) rebuild http://www.summitracing.com/parts/tci-379000/overview/ or 30 spline http://www.summitracing.com/parts/tci-379100/overview/. This doesn't include a shift kit, but a trans go shift kit is under $100, then it's just choosing what converter you need. Is there a reason these kits haven't been brought up? Thanks, Ian
