T5 Output shaft bushing install work-around
I found this work-around on AllFordMustangs.com to install the "Extension housing bushing" without having to remove the tail housing or buy/rent the extraction tool if you can find one.
I wanted to know what you guys thought about it or if anyone here has done this.
quote:
-buy 2 new bushings
-cut 1/4" off of one
-slide the whole bushing on the yoke first, then the 1/4" cut bushing next
-slide the yoke into the output shaft and work it like a slam hammer back and forth
supposedly that pushes the old bushing up inside the tail housing making enough room for the 1/4" cut bushing. then remove the whole bushing and toss it out.
with this method, you would have the old one stuck up in there. if you ever needed to do it again, i'm guessing you must remove the tail housing then.

Re: T5 Output shaft bushing install work-around
It would probably work out okay but you're gambling on the old one being retained in place and doesn't block any lubrication passages.
I'd pull the tail and do it "right."
I'm in the east valley if you need the work done.

@jmd
Thanks for the input and the offer for help.
I think I'm gonna take my chances with this work-around if I can't find the extraction tool to rent in the next couple of days.
I will do it right, but I need the car ready for the Cruise on Central next Saturday
Thanks again
