another 700r4 question

i put my motor and trans in my 91 rs 2 days ago. one issue is the radiator doesnt seem to fit right. after looking around i saw most people have a transmission cooler behind the radiator. should i have a transmission cooler for an automatic 700r4. i was told when i bought it its an 86 700r4.

Re: another 700r4 question

Yes you NEED a trans cooler.
Im guessing your radiator doesn't have trans cooler built in.
If not, you will need to go with an aftermarket unit.
It's up to you if you put it ahead or behind the radiator.

Re: another 700r4 question

thanks ttop and im guessing it didnt fit right because theres no transmission cooler behind it, and its the stock radiator for the car. its really clean though. would you suggest getting a different one? i just want to cruise this summer! ive been building this motor since i was 16 with my dad. i first had an 81 camaro that i shouldve neer gotten rid of, then i traded it for a 1967 c-10 short bed step side which i then sold for an 89 firebird which i recently sold for my 91 rs...needless to say im 23 now and i need to drive this car this summer or ill go insane

Re: another 700r4 question

Can you post a pic of your radiator?
If it's original // stock replacement it should have built in cooler.
