700R4 whats this plug for ?

I have had 8, 3 gen camaro over the years all 87 and unders and all t5. I just got back in to camaro's about 5 days ago i got a 89 rs convertible for next to nothing. It is a 305 tbi 700r4 unmolested bone stock. As i was doing a tune up and a lock over i saw this plug just hinging down cant find out if it goes any where or not. I am pulling no codes. pilg has 2 wire brown and yellow. I have never had a 700r4 so i did not know. ?[ Sorry for the bad picture all i had was my 3 year old cell. Name: 061413203356_zpsc7c7044b.jpg

If it's a four prong plug it goes into the trans for the fourth gear switch and TCC lockup.

I was thinking, perhaps erroneously, that the electric speedo started in 90 on the Camaro with the exception of the Berlinetta? Also would the speedo being unplugged pull a code on the TBI? I know it will on the CCC.

Anyway, if you see purple and yellow you have better eyes than me.

Car could have been repaired or engine swapped with a harness from another.

Yes.

No kidding.

should only be able to plug it into one spot. probably take longer to jack the car up then figure out where it plugs in on the tranny.

Re: 700R4 whats this plug for ?

Camaro through 1989 with speedometer cable doesn't have a VSS mounted at the transmission tailhousing. 1990 and later did.

Pretend someone repaired the car with a `Bird harness or one from a 90 Camaro.

The stock VSS is an optical sensor in the head (guts) of the speedometer and wires that go to a small in-line box, then off to the ECM. All under-dash.

Vss is in the tail shaft of the transmission on electric speedometer models.

Re: 700R4 whats this plug for ?

Apparently GM used the same wiring harness in the Firebird's as the Camaro's. If it was a Firebird that connector would go to the magnetic VSS. Camaro's didn't get the magnetic VSS until the '90 MY.
