possible big find?
Alright, I've been all over the boards lately trying to get everything answered and I got another one for you guys. In my search for a 3 series posi carrier for my 10 bolt I found a guy local that is selling a 10 bolt for cheap. I'm going to try and take a look at it tomorrow as I don't think he has much knowledge on thirdgens or cars for that matter. ( said it was from an" '87 Camero"
sorry but if you can't spell Camaro, I have a feeling you don't know much about them)
Anyways, he also says it has a 3.55 rear which I didn't think was an option on the 10 bolts, but I do recall reading somewhere about them being in a Dana 44. Can anyone shed more light on this? I will have to open the diff when I check it out to see if it's open or limited slip and will count the teeth then, but some info before would be nice as I really don't think he knows for sure what he has. I do know that if I magically have found a Dana 44 it'll be mine soon enough.

Or more likely, a one-wheel-peel 2.73 with a broken (reads high) tach.
But you know now what you gotta do to be sure, so don't let his diarrhea of the mouth fool you. Ignore whatever he says, and instead just pay attention to the parts. They're all that matters.

Ask him to describe the rear cover. A 10 bolt has no fill hole. A 9 bolt has a rubber plug for the fill hole. If it's a Dana 44, it will have a metal pipe plug for a fill hole.

No such luck, just a 7.5 open with a 3.08 gears
nothing I need out of that.
