OK i got a 9 bolt with sweet LSD (limited slip diffrential) but its got a so so ratio (idk the ratio but id have too guess in the 3.00 range with disk brakes. Then on the other hand my 84 trans am has a 10 bolt with the gt4 option with 3.73 gear which is sweet but... it has a very tipical 3rd gen LSD that sucks and works when it wants that is also rear disk.

The point of this, which would you use? I want both great ratio and a great LSD the cheapest way possible. Thx you

The 9 bolt is much stronger than the 10 bolt. How much torque are you putting out?

nothing spectacular just a 350 so in the 200s. The main thing if i want too do donuts or a nice burnouts i can unlike the gay 2 too 1 wheel peel of the 10 bolt. and 500 or soo bucks for a eaton for the 10 bolt 0_0!!!.. id like to avoid considering the gov "bomb" and the aurburn LSD both are junk from what ive read. The car is a 84 with the l69 gt4 g80 codes so (i know id have too look to be sure) could the 10 bolt have the auburn and could that be rebuilt too be decent?

SO Would my best bet too spend 300 bucks for the 3.70 ring gear set for the 9 bolt? and trust the cone setup LSD it has OR??? use the 10 bolt and just suck it up and save too buy the eaton???

The car probly has 235 255 tq id guess 190hp its a truck engine
but in the future id like too build a 300hp 375tq engine for the car

If the 9 bolt has the 2.77 gear then you would have to change the differnetial to a 3 series before you could do the gear swap. Have you looked at the Yukon Dura Grip for the 10 bolt? It's not as expensive as the Eaton, but still MUCH better than the Auburn. The Auburn can not be rebuilt at all. Check with Tom's Differentials on a price for the Eaton. You might be surprised at how low his prices are.

Will you ever stop slandering Auburn? They still give twin black stripes after 120,000 miles and none of these folks will ever put that many miles on one.

I've ran 2 different 9 bolts in my car and the posi's on both were worn out. With the 10 bolt, if you swap it in and the diff is worn out, it is much easier to find/buy a new limited slip carrier for it. I wouldn't worry about strength differences unless you see major hp upgrades and sticky tires in your future.

Nope, I will never stop warning people about how bad the Auburn is. If I saw a snake about to bite you I would warn you about that too. I have personal experience with more than one new Auburn that was completely shot in less than 9 months, and I have scraped the metal sludge out of many rear ends after the Auburn was worn out. They are crap and there are much better differentials out there for just a little more money.

had a 10 bolt with 3.23 in it worked great till the housing broke swapped out for a 9 bolt and it runs much better eventually after doing donuts and burn outs your going the need a rebuild compare prices for both rears and make your choice that way.

think of it like a new car. you dont buy the Benz that kills you on parts you buy the IROCZ because its better and cheaper. lol

I'd run the 10-bolt. 9-bolt is cool, but lord help you when you need to repair/rebuild anything in it.
