Clutch push rod bushing, constantly snapping. Third gen specialist.
Sup guys!
I have a 1988 RS 305 and i need someone to either come take a look at it or maybe they're not to far to tow it.
I'm having a problem with the c-clip that connects the clutch pedal to the slave
cylinder. My pedal keeps snapping them and i don't know why.
I'm kind of at wits end, I am only a student and currently unemployed. It was my daily driver, but if i need to replace the cylinder again(it was replaced about a year ago) I'm probably gonna be forced to sell. Its my pride and joy, but i can't deal with the upkeep of it constantly breaking down.
ANYTHING HELPS!

Dont waste any more time with the stupid plastic one that GM thought was ok. I used part of the that plastic clip as a bushing basically and then bought one of these:
http://www.ebay.com/itm/Camaro-Firebird-Clutch-Master-Rod-to-Pedal-Retainer-Clip-New-GM-/310691876194?pt=Motors_Car_Truck_Parts_Accessories&fits=Model%3ACamaro&hash=item4856adcd62&vxp=mtr
I think i bought it from another vender however for about 3 bucks lol.

I linked to the PN of the clip I used (and the poster below my post linked to an eBay auction for the same thing.)
The bushing looked like the below (on the right!) I turned down the o.d. so it would fit in the master cylinder end and the i.d. so it would fit over the pedal stud, and shortened it's length so the clip could fit over the stud.
The bushing was from a blower motor or fan motor or something like that.

Wouldn't be surprised if a Hurst shifter bushing would work there.... those fit all manner of convenient spots

http://www.highperformancepontiac.co.../photo_08.html[/quote ]I need a clip that fits. I tried them all, Auto-zone, NAPA, and the Dealer, all the same part but they don't fit. The pedal stud is about 3/8 and the slotted hole on the big end is about 5/16th, not even close. What gives? At this point I don't even care about the plastic or metal bushing, seeing neither stays on. Aside from removing my pedal assembly, I'm open to any and all ideas for a fix. I'm thinking c-clip but would prefer something more substantial. Someone mentioned a part from a 4th gen, but that appears to be more of the same, I dunno? All chime in. Car is junk/pretty paper weight with this problem.

Better than plastic? Sure is.
Depending on the grade of bronze, it may wear and loosen up, but it will do so without wearing the pushrod or pedal stud.

Your [ quote ] stuff was messed so I didn't see your full question. Here it is:
If the clip subroc and I suggested doesn't fit, then get a washer that fits to secure the rod and a circlip (snapring) or e-clip that fits.

Ok, I'll try that. Thanks. I'll let you know how that works.
