I believe this will be decided on what you want from your car and also how you drive. Remember when you decide that the TH350 and 400 have no overdrive.

my vote is for a 1987 or later 700r4.you can't beat that great first gear and overdrive.

With the price of gas I would want overdrive. If you're strictly going to race it and need something cheap then I'd go with a TH400. Best of both worlds would be a 4L80E, but that robs some power and is a little harder to install. A rebuilt 700r4 (post 1987) would be my choice in your situation.

What is the best stage rebuild kit/ brand you think for my situation engine is a 350 bored 0.40 over with a 480 lift at .50 with an hei distributor weiand single plane intake a 750 dp holly and headman long tubes I am leaning towards an alto I assume I will need the lockup kit for the converter with no cpu and idk if i want a shift kit or not I got a hurst promatic 2 shifter I was able to fit in the car it worked well with the old trans.
