Shift kit info and ideas
Shift kit info and ideas
So I'm forgoing my swap from auto to manual because of lack of parts availability in my area and the final cost to get all the parts I need and have them shipped. My overdrive gear is completely gone and i HAVE to replace the tanny now but I want to put a shift kit in it to get some of the control I would have with the manual.
I'm looking at the transgo kit from summit http://www.summitracing.com/parts/tr...make/chevrolet and though i know quite a bit about my car I know very little about the inner workings of a transmission. I'm comfortable following directions and based on what i've read here it sounds reasonably easy. (If not i have a tans guy that I'll take it to)
my question is, is there anything i should add to that kit? cause when i go to their site http://www.transgo.com/products.php?...6&parent_id=96 there are other options that i assume are in addition to the kit an i see talk of people using corvette servos or .500 boost valves and whatnot.
What i really want to get out of it is good transmission life, nice solid shifts, but still be able to lay down the rubber and have fun with it. This is my daily driver/fun car. i don't race it and don't plan on it any time in the near future. Also it's still got the stock 305 tbi. So would I need anything else? or would just the kit be good? what would i see out of specific components? links to other posts would be acceptable answers as well, I've read a bunch of them but none of them seem to answer my specific daily driver questions.
also how does this affect the life/wear of the rear end, trans mounts, ujoints etc.. i've already broken my trans mounts twice lol (probably why my tranny is going bad in the first place). I love my car but i'm not a grandpa driver.
