Ok fine... everything needed to swap linkage clutch to hydraulic?
83 Firebird with the manual (linkage) style clutch.
Swapping in a V8 and figure now's the time to change over.
What's needed?
So far I know:
Hydraulic (later style) bell housing
Master cylinder (buying new)
Slave cylinder (buying new)
Pedal assembly
And anything else?

You need to say what engine you are swapping in and what transmission you are using.

Well, if I'm installing a clutch, a T5 is a given. If it were a T56 I'd have said that!
The engine is a 383; no LS or weird stuff here.

I think you have the basics, but if you are "swapping in" a V8 does that mean the car did not come with a V8? If not, I think you will need a flywheel, pressure plate and clutch, pilot bearing, throwout bearing.
If you have a strong 383 (why else would you build one) have a spare T5 handy. I'm not sure if a V6 T5 is weaker, but even the V8 T5s are not know for their strength.

I asked about the hydraulic clutch, this isn't a V6 to V8 swap thread!
The V6 T5 doesn't bolt up so that's going.
I have a built WC T5 that was behind a 383 so I'll be ok

AC DELCO has the Slave AND Bearing as a set, around $80. Just make sure you get the bearing that fits the slave unit

Re: Ok fine... everything needed to swap linkage clutch to hydraulic?
master cylinder hardware (stock is a u-bolt and two nuts)
a sheet rubber for between master and firewall if the new one doesn't have a gasket material
84-92 pedals
A brake pedal stamped steel clip to retain the clutch master rod to the clutch pedal (it's re-usable; easy to R&R and the plastic push-on version sucks.)
The 93-97 master / slave assy. comes with a stainless line which is longer and as much as I know someone will tell you it's a different bore, it works fine with the T5. BTDT
Make sure your V8 T5 is set up with mechanical speedo gears and don't post on here like it's a mystery how to remove 1991 VSS and install 1983 cable drive parts.
A stock heat shield with welded-in nuts was used with bolts to retain the slave cylinder. or proper hardware (with flange head bolts / washers / locking nuts) is needed. No exhaust on driver side = no need for heat shield but there's nothing wrong with running it.
Make sure your V8 T5 is a 26 spline input shaft (it wouldn't be the first time someone put a V6 one behind a 383 and won't be the last and no one is trying to insult your intelligence) so it'll match your new clutch.
That should be it. Happy swapping.

Thanks for all the info. Time to start shopping.
As for the V6 T5 behind a 383... only if they swapped the input shaft would it fit, in which case they should've known it wasn't a V8 tranny lol

Re: Ok fine... everything needed to swap linkage clutch to hydraulic?
The gear of the F-body V8 T5 input shaft isn't the same tooth count as any V6 T5, so that's not possible.
Now if you meant to say "only if they swapped the clutch disc would it fit," then you'd be onto something.

No, the V6 tranny does NOT fit the V8... period

With the right clutch disc, a third gen V6 T5 will fit a V8.

Re: Ok fine... everything needed to swap linkage clutch to hydraulic?
I've always assumed that as well. If so, just call phoenix or fort wayne and ask them to put the coarse spline v6 hub on the clutch disc.
edit: Here is how to do it

Re: Ok fine... everything needed to swap linkage clutch to hydraulic?
It's gm 3817880 (brake pushrod - pedal retaining clip.) With a bronze bushing, it's a longer lasting fix than the plastic piece. And when you run into mixing 3rd / 4th gen clutch master cylinder / pedal parts where the plastic isn't the right size, it solves the problem.
