Yup, socks right up in there. Identical in every significant external dimension.

Just make sure it's not one of the ones that they put, LITERALLY, corrugated cardboard inside, as noise damping. One of the relics of the "old GM" I suppose. Those are widely known to develop strange vibrations and whatnot from the cardboard disintegrating with age.

And they're thin-wall tubing.

OEM steel driveshafts are serviceable hundreds of thousands of miles.

Good aftermarket aluminum driveshafts are serviceable hundreds of thousands of miles.

The one you're looking at, isn't.

So the 3rd gen JG1 aluminum driveshaft is superior to the LS1's?

Patience and regular searching.
Keep a saved search on eBay and check the classifieds here.

Also, keep an eye for used ones that match the length you need. A GM 27 spline front yoke and a new u-joint at the rear joint (to match your pinion yoke if different than yours) can make a right-length shaft work.

FWIW, I have an aluminum shaft I bought on eBay for around $110 because I knew the guys car (with non-stock length trans.) made the assembly correct for my (non-stock length trans.) application.
