Overfilled or overheating come to mind quickly, but I think there are other possibilities as well, but can't remember then off the top of my head.

Re: 700r4 breather leak

Start with checking the fluid level with the motor running, I had a shop over fill my transmission before as well as not set the detent cable correctly, they blew the front seal on its test drive so I took it home and swapped a rebuilt 700r4 in myself, never can trust a shop again after that.

Re: 700r4 breather leak

This transmission can be overfull by a quart and a half and not have leaks at the breather (balance) tube. I suspect they used the early pump gasket, this can cause the leak. The early pump gasket still comes with all the paper & rubber (gasket) kits. They have not needed this gasket since the late gasket was introduced many years ago. The early front pump gasket was for the first year or two and the late gasket will retrofit. I throw out all of the early gaskets to make sure that what happened to you, never happens. Make sure that the leak is from there, and the fluid level is correct, and the transmission is not overfull. This might fix it.
