I can sell you one. I need to get it out of the rear end I have. It's out of a 2001 z28. $50 plus shipping . You can look my user name up on here. Good feedback.

I thought so too. I've listed this one and a 95 auburn unit several times with no luck.
what size is the zexel torsen differential u have? will it fit my stock rear end?
Member
I told you what I had in private message yesterday. They are all interchangeable . 82-02 . Just need 28 spline axles . (Which you already have)
Ok. I know you said you have to take it out, when are you planning on dong that and could you send pictures when you do?

Will try to get it out today.
well I could not get straight answers from sellers, so I decided to get an Auburn LSD with cone clutches. I hope this holds up in my diff.

Why not the Eaton Posi, Eaton Truetrac or Yukon Dura Grip? Any of these would have been MUCH better than the Auburn.
well because I don't know what is good and bad yet, I want to learn. I'm trying to learn and I cant get any straight answers from any one so I had a friend help me and he as an Auburn in his car, thus that's what I went with. I did a little digging and they seam like they should work but I know them. I spent about $400 on it so I really hope it holds up. I want help but no one seams to want to help. I'm new to the aftermarket world and this is my first car that I'v had the money to put into it and its the first worth it.

If you drive it somewhat normal and don't do any water burnouts or burnouts while holding the brake it will last a long time. If you do a lot of burnouts then plan on replacing it in about a year. If you have questions about a product then ask it here before purchase.
well I only put about 3k on the car per year and most of thous miles the car is not moving just the rear tires. I just blew the trans so I'm going to rebuild that and at the same time I'm putting in the Auburn. for when I blow this diff up what would you recommend? I was looking at getting a Yukon locker but I was told that a LSD would be better.

A locker kit that is installed in a standard differential case works pretty good for off road use. A lot of people use them in street cars, but they pop and jerk some. A Eaton Posi, Yukon Dura Grip or Eaton Truetrac will work smooth and pull both rear tires in all but the worst conditions.
Just a heads up, when you get the Auburn installed you should have 2 bottles of the GM limited slip oil additive handy. Use one bottle, but if it starts to pop when turning corners you will need to put the other bottle in. Most of the time the Auburn requires 2 bottles of the GM oil additive.

Ok thanks for the thoughts.
For the record.... the 98-02 Torsen will most definitely fit our axle housings. But you may need to get 28-spline axles to fit it.

That was one of the things that made the Torsen a good fit for him. He already has the 28 spline axles in his '92.
I WANT A TORSEN DIFF I CANT FIND ONE all the ones I find have a lot of miles on them or there look chewed up

You can find them on eBay, that's where I got mine. Torsen units don't have clutches that wear out like Auburns so as long as there isn't damage to the gears they're fine. And if you read some previous threads on this forum you would have known that torsens are far superior to an Auburn, the matter has been debated many times.
I hope for your sake you at least bought a new Auburn, as used ones could be smoked and you wouldn't even know it until you get it in the car & it won't spin posi. Also an important thing to note is that Auburn units require GM Posi additive in the gear oil. If you run it without this additive you'll damage the clutches and burn it out even faster than normal

When you say "chewed up" do you mean having marks around the outside where the pinion has been rubbing on it? If that is the case then I wouldn't worry much about it. As long as it hasn't chewed into the retainer plate or other important parts the markes aren't going to hurt anything.Originally Posted by Rousseau92maro

Since Auburns use cones.... are cones the same as clutches? Does that mean we should be using LS additive in 9 bolts as well?Originally Posted by Formula 305

The cone is a clutch, just in a different form. Some people on here will tell you not to use the additive, but if the rear end is popping when you turn corners then you need the additive. If it's not popping then don't use it. The only purpose for using the additive is to make it slip smoother when turning corners. It doesn't do anything else.
I know torsen is way better then auburn witch is y I want one. I started this post hopping to find one.
I bought a new auburn.
the gears are chewed like worn out.
cone clutches are one clutch on each side and its a cone shape witch is stronger then a multiple clutch set up, they are flat disks.

I know that you already have the Auburn, and I'm not trying to talk you out of it, but have you looked at the Eaton Truetrac? It's very similar to the Torsen.
no have not at all but I will look. If the Auburn is as bad as you'all make it sound then with the way I drive it will blow soon. thus I will need to look for a new diff. I'll check the Eaton out. I kinda moved fast to get the Auburn cuz I needed to get it and put in before the weather got bad so I put the car away for the winter.

You are not going to break the Auburn, it will just wear out quicker than any of the other units if you abuse it. It makes a mess inside the rear end too with all of the powdered metal.
The Eaton Truetrac is just like the torsen diff. I wish I know this soon. I'm got the return the Auburn and get a Truetrac, I have heard tow many bad things about Auburns.
I hate to leave something unfinished so... I did get a Eaton Truetrac I put new gears in at the same time. I love the way it hooks, it very predictable. I know when it will and wont slide and it always hooks up of a stop light. My wife liked it so much I just put the same diff in her s10 and she loves it.

Its nice when someone follows up like this and the fact he picked a truly great differential makes it even better.
I'm very happy with the "Eaton Posi" unit I have (clutch pack) but have my eye on the Truetrac if I ever need another one.
