Which transmission do I have?
Which transmission do I have?
Swapping TBI to Carb on 305 on 89 rs. It looks like I have a kickdown cable and not a TV cable. It was my understanding that these cars usually came with the 700r4 and should have a tv cable. Am I missing something? The cable from the tbi looks like https://i.imgur.com/vAzuj.jpg

The easiest way to find out would be to crawl underneath and look.
It's pretty easy to tell just by the transmission oil pan.

Get off your keyboard and use a mirror, cell-phone, child and/or girlfriend-labor, and peer at what's under the car
Looks like a TV cable to me.
Then again, 80s kickdown cables for TH350-C looked nearly identical to TV cables. And the late kickdown cables fit exactly where a TV cable goes.

Re: Which transmission do I have?
82-83 had th-200c
84-89 had 700r4
90-92 had a 700r4 but it was renamed 4L60, not to be confused with 4L60E
That looks like a TV cable to me. (bottom cable) but that linkage/throttle hookup on top looks odd. Are you using a metal rod linkage type throttle setup?

i see a throttle cable and TV cable- that big kickdown looking thing with the long slot in the foreground is the linkage for the cruise control. it goes to the big round thing somewhere on the inner fenderwel with the vacuum hoses on it and is how the cruise control moves the throttle.

Oh ok, I didn't see the throttle cable behind/under the linkage rod.

Re: Which transmission do I have?
I see all 3 hookups:
The cruise is the long thing on top with the slot. The throttle cable (goes to the gas pedal) is immediately behind that in the photo: it sticks through the bracket and its hookup is directly behind the cruise link.
The TV cable is at the bottom of the bracket and of the carb linkage.
Your car came with the 700/4L60. Could have anything at all in it now of course, but probably doesn't, given that it still has the 700/4L60 TV cable. Most likely still has the 700/4L60 that goes with the cable.
