th350 problems
Hi guys it's been a long time since I've posted but I've got a problem. My car has a TCI Streetfighter TH350 with their torque converter also. Always used Mobil 1 Atf. Installed in car 2010 or 11. Less than 50000 miles. It was working fine until 1 morning the car was whining like a blower. I thought it was the alternator. Well 5 minutes down the road no more whine and no more motion. There is a crazy vibration while reving the engine in park. Looking under is weird. It looks like the torque converter is wobbling. Is this possible? The fluid was still pink. Does this sound like a blown transmission? Or can I get a little luck and is there something smaller I could be overlooking? I miss my car. Any input is greatly appreciated.

Re: th350 problems
TC "wobbling" = turn it off and pull it out NOW, before it does any more damage.
Hard to say for sure what the cause is... it's too dark up under there for me to see it well ATM. Suspects would include broken pump or broken TC. Can't think of much else that would allow that to happen.

It's weird I've just seen another post with video about a wobbling torque converter. I didn't post video because I don't know how. But mine looks a little like his but when you rev it up to 2500rpm or so and hold it the whole car is shaking and it feels like it's in that tunnel. It's like everything went out of balance. Like I said it was weird. No problem to whining like a supercharger to no gears what so ever within a night of sitting. This is why I hate autos. It was rated for 450hp, my car makes 300, it was in the car for 7 years and less than 50000 miles and it takes a ****. With a huge transcooler and mobil 1 Atf. I just don't get it.

first thing i would check are the torque converter bolts. if they are still there and tight, it's possible you've broken the flexplate up around the crank. take the converter bolts out and shove the converter backwards away from the engine. grab the flexplate and see if you can move it side to side with both hands. it's often hard to see where they crack when its by the 6 bolts at the crankshaft. anyway, thats what i'd check first.

Re: th350 problems
The pilot will generally hold the front of the converter concentric with the crank, as long as it stays inside the crank, even if the bolts are loose. It would have to back out at least ¼" to no longer be aligned that way. Unless of course, there's 2 defects going on at the same time ... loose bolts AND a broken pilot ... which while not impossible, is kinda far-fetched.
About the only way it can "wobble" is by the hub being loose in the pump. Which cannot possibly end well if the motor keeps on running.
"Whining" points to something about the pump as well.
Work with what's PROBABLE, not imagine the weirdest thing that's POSSIBLE. 2 very different things. PROBABLE = some ONE thing that, all by itself, accounts for ALL the observed symptoms, without any inconsistencies. POSSIBLE might include alien abduction and the like... definitely not the first go-to to come up with an explanation.
See my signature for some help with logic.

Re: th350 problems
Whining on my 700R4 was the pump. Followed shortly by it not making enough pressure to lockup the clutches or unlock itself into reverse. Since the pump is driven by the torque converter - guessing yours has gone catastrophically wrong inside. Definitely discontinue use of that transmission immediately to avoid any potential engine damage from that unbalanced load on the flex plate.

Re: th350 problems
Okay thanks guys I figured it'd be something big. I just can't believe this trans gave out in about 7 years or so with a lot less power than it was even rated for, and less than 50000 miles. It costed a good $1500 back then and I only went that route because I couldn't find a decent rebuilder in my area that didn't want almost as much to rebuild my weak version of the 700. I figured the 700 lasted 25 years and 135000 miles, this thing would easily make that too. Especially with better everything. Oh well.
