TKO600 VSS Help

Have my TKO600 swap nearly completed (91 - 305 TPI). Some questions with the VSS.

I purchased the adapter from Fortes, but I cant figure out how it goes together.

The adapter fits into the Electric hole on the drivers side of the tranny - but I cant seem to figure out how all all goes together etc.

Advise from those who have done this swap?

Photos attached of my VSS and the Fortes Adapter.

Re: TKO600 VSS Help

The adapter he provides is for a mechanical hookup. The factory electric vss fits in the second vss hole in the trans and the rear one needs to be plugged off. He has the plug off kit available
I mentioned this to fortes years ago when I did my swap so apparently he didn't change anything.

Re: TKO600 VSS Help

86TA - thanks. That is what I was thinking as I cant see how the adapter provided with the kit does anything. I am going to give Fortes a shout today and see if maybe they just sent me the wrong one.

Question - what did you do with your VSS - did you end up using the correct Fortes 'adapter"? I have seen from reading on here some seem to use some other options which I am not really clear on, but curious re what you ended up using.

Thanks,
DK

Re: TKO600 VSS Help

I'm curious too. Although my 89 speedo is still mechanical, I want to run a VSS signal to my Holley ECM.

Re: TKO600 VSS Help

Thanks 86Z.
Do you recall what you used for the VSS sender if you didnt use the Fortes adapter?
I have a call into Fortes, but curious what others have done if they did not use it/were not able to figure it out.
Thanks,
DK

I was thinking about this more. Its been a long time since I did this swap and I remembered I have a Dakota digital box installed in the car to convert the signal from the trans. That means I used the sender on the trans which came with it. Its a ford electric so the ppm is way to high. Look at the side of the trans, if its the same as mine there is a Speedo sender on it already and you can't use the factory electric one.

Re: TKO600 VSS Help

However, I went from auto to manual and the sender is different from the factory manual sender, so maybe you can use yours in place of what's there? I didn't know there were different senders at the time and who knows, maybe it works.

Re: TKO600 VSS Help

Thanks for your help. I messed around with the Fortes "adapter" again tonight to make sure I wasnt missing something, no dice.

I am just going to work with the Ford VSS which is on unit and use the Sender on the pass side and convert it down with the Dakota digital box for the ECM. This seems like an easier approach for me now. Will let you know how it goes.

On the +ve note, the little bit I have been able to drive the car with the TKO, feels really nice, and no issues other than VSS.
