Soft 2-3 shift, where to look?
So I rebuilt my trans a couple thousand miles ago (700r4), and after a couple of rookie issues it was working great. I used a B&M kit from Summit. About a thousand miles in, the pump shattered. I replaced it with a pump from another trans I had sitting in the shop, replaced the filter and was back on the road. A few hundred miles later I did another filter change since I knew there was an unknown amount of metal/contamination from the pump in the trans. The filter I pulled out revealed a very little bit of metal, but was mostly very clean. At some point I noticed the trans would slip badly if I accelerated in overdrive to the point of getting a 4-3 downshift (passing, etc.), and at some point after that, I noticed that the 2-3 shift was soft if I was giving it more than half throttle. I put a gauge on it a couple of days ago, and at full tv sitting still in the shop I get 200+ psi, but when I take it out on the road and go wot, I can't get it past about 125 psi... And I verified that wot gets full tv, just as in my static test. So I'm wondering why there is such a difference in the static and dynamic tests? Also, I'm assuming I'm going to have to take it out and go into it again, but where do I look for the problem? This was my first trans rebuild, but like I said, it was working great initially. Although now that I think about it, I never did a dynamic pressure test before the other day, so maybe the problem was there all along and it only showed up as the 3-4 clutches got worn. Also, my 1-2 shift is pretty rock hard. I would love to soften that a bit. Would that be because of the spacer the kit had me put behind the 1-2 accumulator piston, or something else? Thanks in advance!
