reverse lockout

Wired up my t56 today. Reverse lockout is through the brake pedal switch. Was wondering if anyone has wired it in series with the clutch switch as well, the more I think about it the more I like the idea.

Re: reverse lockout

Probably not a good idea. The clutch switch is part of the starter motor interlock circuit. Giving it a power source could engage the starter motor.

What engine controller are you using?

Re: reverse lockout

Lol, I wouldn't do that my friend, I just wired all this up im well aware of that, however the 4thgen pedals have 2 switches on them, I'll have to check if the second set is normally open or closed contacts. If memory serves the second set is used to bump the car out of c.c. on a 4th gen.

Engine controller??? Never heard of it....

Re: reverse lockout

I'm still scratching my head trying to see the purpose though. The purpose of the switch is to prevent going into reverse gear at inappropriate time. Putting the switch on the clutch pedal doesn't meet any of that criteria.... ?

Re: reverse lockout

Putting the RLO on the brake pedal is also a TERRIBLE idea. Personally saw someone zing reverse while downshifting from 6th gear because he used the brake lights to power the circuit. If you must, I recommend putting a momentary switch inline with the power from the brake, so you can only go into reverse when YOU want to. Also, this means that you're constantly engaging the RLO any time you brake.
Additionally, there is a module you can buy that will control all of that for you. It will only open reverse when going less than 5 mph, I believe.

Re: reverse lockout

I'm curious about the duty cycle of the solenoid. Is it going to be happy sitting energized In traffic for 5 minutes. When wired in series with a clutch switch it is just one more step to keep the thing as energized as little as possible and to prevent you from zinging into reverse at the worst of times.

The car has been gutted of any computer controls/ecm for years. I have no way of reading a speed sensor, heck the car won't even have a Speedo for the time being until I get one of those fancy autometer Gps speedos.

Re: reverse lockout

I know quite a bit about ac electronics not a ton about dc I'm going to research if maybe there is a time delay or something I could wire in say maybe 3 seconds or so In series that would work well.

Re: reverse lockout

Then you can run one of the automatic modules that will open it under ~5 mph

There are cheaper ones though, just can't find the link for the one I got

Re: reverse lockout

I just spoke with samoco I did not realize they were stand alone modules, they were very informative and also spoke with me about integrating the autometer speedo. Thanks for your help sir

I just bought one of these off ebay for my welder. Works great and has 4 timing modes.

https://www.ebay.com/itm/New-12V-LED....c100033.m2042

$4.42 + 1.85 shipping.
There are also other models, so take a look around.

Very cool, I already ordered the samoco module. I think its a better option but for sure that timing control is a super cheap way around it, should definitely work in this situation if it will work solely on DC.

I play with a lot of this stuff in the Hvac industry but do not have a DC time delay on the truck.
