1985 transmission IDentification 700 or 200
1985 transmission IDentification 700 or 200
Was there only the 700 R4 transmission available from factory in 1985. A transmission repair man has asked if it was a 200 or 700. He says by the gear selection , 1,2,Drive and OD it is a 200. Sounds confusing to me. Any clarification would be appreciated. Thanks, Frank

Only time I recollect the 2004r being used in a thirdgen was on the 89TTA. Many people have used them it just didn't come stock on our cars.

From 83-92 all the V8s used the 700R4. The shifter on some reads 1, 2, 3, OD, others read 1, 2, D, OD. Doesn't matter it's still a 700R4.

If it's a 4spd overdrive, probably. All else fails, search google for an auto trans pan ID chart, and get under it and look at the pan and count the bolts. 700r4 is a square, flat pan with 16? bolts. 2004r looks more like Nevada.

Yep, also all V6 models use the 700R4, but in a smaller bellhousing than the V8s. They are not interchangeable.
