700r4 gear conversion

Has anybody here done the 700r 1st gear 2.84 conversion? If so, has your ET/60 ft improved and what gear are you running? Wanting to know if it's worth the effort and money. I need to go back into the trans anyway, so this mod may be the last one to do. Thanks for any info and experience with this mod.

Re: 700r4 gear conversion

I did it but I don't know any times. We don't have drag strips in Switzerland :-) It's just a lot more enjoyable to drive now as you have a usable 1st gear for the first time. Of course you need now also the power to use that gear :-)

Re: 700r4 gear conversion

Good info and thank you. I was hoping for someone to post track time improvements, but glad someone posted anyway. I'll have a look at the link and maybe others will post up. Thanks again.

Re: 700r4 gear conversion

Read the entire thread from Articwhite concerning the 2.84 conversion, it was very good actually. Sent him a PM and will see how he reply's to it. Thanks again.

Re: 700r4 gear conversion

I am still waiting for someone to post actual comparisons. I asked this question over 4 years ago (and on other forums too) and still waiting. The drop between 1st and 2nd is almost identical with either gear set. 2nd to 3rd has a slightly better improvement than stock. Put the money on a good torque converter where you will actually "see" the difference.

Re: 700r4 gear conversion

What comparisons do you want to see and why this negativity all the time? Sometimes the dissing and disbelieve here is as worse as in german car forums :-)

I did the swap and I like it. Of course it's not that drastic change one would think of but still enough that you can clearly feel it in driving. Especially here in Swiss mountains where you have to go into 1st A LOT because of tight corner. As we do not have any drag strips here in Switzerland I do not have a way to give you any numbers on 0-60ft times etc. As I was redoing my whole trans I just felt right to do the swap now instead of thinking all the time how it could have been with it. Also with all the money I was investing to do the fully fledged overhaul to suit up for my 355 and Trickflow 195s/FIRST TPI engine rebuild I'm also doing besides it. At the moment I'm running the new trans behind the tired old 350 TPI which maybe is not even producing 200HP anymore because of the age and wear. I guess it feels a lot better with a new engine and hopefully more that 350HP *fingerscrossed* :-)

This is just my very own opinion and experience with the swap.

Re: 700r4 gear conversion

I've seen someplace that the ET drop claims and results at the track are quite a bit different. As in, claims of up to .5 in 1/4 lower ET but in real life its been more like .05 et reduction.

Thanks for all the input and I've seen the articles were there was a 3 tenths decrease which would be great or even 2 tenths, but if only a 5 hundreds decrease, that would definitely not be cost effective IMO. I am going to a SS3600 TC which should help my 60ft a bit. Thanks again.
