82/83 frame different than 84 and up? Crossmember
82/83 frame different than 84 and up? Crossmember
I want to add a t56 to my 83 z28. It is from a 96 ss camaro. I reached out to hawks and they stated they do not make one for the 82/83 because the frame is different. Any recommendations for a crossmember for a 83?

82 with the 200C or the 4-speeds had the crossmember about 2 or 3" farther forward. They don't have the rearmost hole that's in the later cars for the 700/T-5 location. The "frame" is the same; just, the rear hole isn't there. In theory you could install it I suppose.
Most 83s have the later setup.
If your 83 came with a 700 or T-5, you can use any of em, no problems.

I have a 83 L69 car.
All the later stuff fits it just fine. Including the T-56 that's in it now. I happen to have the Spohn TA & X-member. Not that it matters.
Mine had a T-5, same as yours, so it has the other 2 bolt holes; 1 on each side.
"Modification" to a 82 consists of adding the 2 bolt holes. They need captive nuts of some sort too. You can hole-saw the floor right above them, tack-weld the nuts in, and use a plastic plug. Probably a 1¼" hole would do the trick. But you don't need to do that.
Since you have a 83 L69 car, it came with a T-5. It's just like mine. You have the bolt holes. It'll fit.
I don't think the stock TA will fit. Seems like it's about 2" too long, and maybe different in other ways as well. A 4th gen one might though.
