10 bolt for Autocross?

I have a 5.0 tbi 92 RS that I only AutoX.
The factory 7.625 10 bolt has bad wheel bearings and I want to rebuild it.
It's a 2.73 open diff drum rear.

Can a 7.625 10 bolt handle 350 horsepower?
At the AutoX we never do hard launches and any 100% power usage is always done when moving.
Ex: we may rapidly floor it for 1-2 seconds, but never from a dead stop.
The current 170hp 5.0 won't break it, but I'll be using a L33 5.3L next season.(350-380HP)

My plan was putting in:
3.42s
Eaton True-track
New 28spline axles
New bearings/seals
And putting together some disk brakes.

Is this a wasted effort?

For autocross this will hold up well. I have pretty much the same setup in my car except I have a torsen posi unit. For the cost I had about $350 in rebuilding mine including buying the posi unit and new pads and rotors. The 10 bolt will be fine!

Just as an FYI you might want to do a little research on changing gears since you have a 2.73 currently. It's pretty well documented here: https://www.thirdgen.org/forums/tran...ear-ratio.html

The problem is you have a 2 series rear instead of a 3. You can go up to 3:08 with no problem but any higher than that and you'll want to make sure you do your homework so you aren't buying parts twice.

I only have around 200hp. 3:42 gears and 245/55/16 tires. I am going to 275/40/18’s.

Re: 10 bolt for Autocross?

It was my understanding that all the axle housings are the same and the only difference is the differential itself.
Since im going with a 3 series True Track, 3.42s should fit.
If I was keeping the stock diff ya, 3.08 would be the largest I could go.

You're correct. My bad man I missed the point where you're going with an Eaton

No problem, I'm just gathering as much data/opinions as I can.
Still unsure if building up a small 10 bolt is worth it
VS spending more on a 8.8 build.

Re: 10 bolt for Autocross?

You can run a rear gear higher than 3.08 in a series 2 carrier. You just need to make sure you get the set with the thicker ring gear.

Re: 10 bolt for Autocross?

The ten bolt will hold up fine behind a 305 TBI. I autocrossed with hot street 355s and a 383 with street tires and never broke the rear. Grab one of the thick aluminum covers to aid in draining and refilling fluid.
