I have a set of 3.42s for mine Tim. Haven't installed them though. Let us know how you like 'em.
Will do. We've been getting a ton of rain here in the Atlanta area. It is suppose to let up Friday so hopefully I can get this done Saturday and a test drive on Sunday. I'll keep you posted.
Ive got the 3.42s installed and went through the break-in process today. Initial reaction is that they run and drive very smooth. Seems a bit more responsive down low but I really haven't pushed it hard yet. More to come once this rain moves out.
So I take my Camaro up to get a minor exhaust leak welded up on the intermediate pipe. While on the lift I was inspecting the the work done in and around the rear end from the ring and pinion install. On my passenger side left rear wheel I could see what looking like oil spinning out and onto the wheel and tire. My first thought was the axle seal was leaking. Once we took the wheel off we were surprised. The wheel cylinder had ruptured and was leaking brake fluid all over the wheels and shoes which also explained my spongy brake pedal. Now I'm replacing both wheel cylinders. Still have not really had the chance to push the gears and see just how much of an improvement it made. I'm getting impatient.

I got a rear end from a 4th gen that already had 3.42s. It was a noticeable difference. I also installed relocation brackets, LCA's and a new panhard bar.

What did you do about the extra length of the rear end? Got any pics?
Finally got the wheel cylinders installed and the brake system is back to normal if not better than new. Also was lucky enough to have the car up on a lift and found a wire with a fuseable link going to the alternator in poor shape. It was an original wire so it was about 30 years old. Replaced it and got her back on the road for a brief test drive before the rains came AGAIN. Very noticeable difference with the 3.42 gears. Nice pull through 1st and 2nd gears. Launches really good. I'm very pleased. I would recommend these to anyone with a LO3 and 700R4.

Went out to the garage to get a couple. I picked up my 4th gen rear for $250 and it came out of a 01 Camaro SS. Mainly I wanted the disc brakes in the back but the 3.42's was a nice addition. The extra width didn't bother me with stock 15 inch wheels.
Never mind the missing nut for the torque arm. It is coming off for a different project.
