I have Firebirds - an 86 and a 91. And as pointed out it's highly dependent on the model and how it's equipped. I will weigh mine. But you also need to weigh yours in current config to make accurate assessments. I'm in the middle of a head swap so it will be a week or two before I can get on a scale with the 86 that makes similar power to your wife's Camaro.
GD
Well, I say don't spend time/effort/$$ to do it, in general as I recall, 'Birds did weigh more than Camaros.
But what's the whole point here. right?
I'll admit I'm a dumazz...I'll admit I flamed a bunch of stuff on in this particular thread I should have just not put fingers to the keyboard. I'll admit all the animosity, etc in the last 40 -50 post is because I stirred the pot.
I'm sorry.
Now, let's get real, why should anyone have to go out and weigh their car to prove a keyboard point? I mean if you (third person) are really curious as to what your cars weigh, then by all means go ahead. But taking time out of the day and money out of your pocket to prove an internet disagreement?
Bottom line is if the car runs 10's or 13's, doesn't matter what it weighs, it ran in the 10's or the 13's.

Yep. That's true and his number is a good number. But it's really not a substitute for a dyno number either. The merits of the engine build on it's own can't really be measured accurately by that number alone. Especially without an as-run weight. And even then it's only going to give a ball park.
His claim that I was "way, way, way off" on my estimate of his wheel HP is not agreed upon by me or others in this thread.
The Dyno would yield valuable tuning information and there may be power left on the table. Sure you could tune it at the track but that is usually a more expensive and time consuming process..... the whole reason we use Dyno's is to avoid that time and expense. It also allows observation and adjustment while the car is under load but stationary.
My argument is that my estimate of the wheel HP was relatively close. Based on the car not being dyno tuned, and the build, and the time slips - I estimate I was within 10%.
I am curious to weigh mine anyway so I likely will. Not to prove anything per-se.
Word of mouth is one thing lol nice to have scales tho. With me in it
So all those guys on that thread lied ..lol I know what the car weighs I dont think island has a scale I weighed the car at e town they are closed as you know next time I can I'll weigh it and post pics to prove to this duechd bag it weighs what I said
Not saying Anyone lied or not, but its just nice when someone asks that you have the proof to back it up. I know alot of guys will over state their weights to make their times seem more impressive lol. Its just the nature of the game lol. I am fully aware that most irocs seem to be in the 3300-3400 range.

I have no reason to lie next time I find a scale I'll weigh it wish I took a picture when I did at e town who knew they were going to close. Wonder if atco has a scale? Like I said island doesnt

ATCO better still have a scale...
Otherwise the slower sanctioned organizations (IHRA, Philadelphia Modifiers) and groups would not race there.
