Proper Transmission mount and Crossmember?

Yeah, I keep digging myself into a bigger hole with little odds and ends.

I am looking to replace my transmission mount and cross-member.

I have the T5 in my 88. I was looking at this crossmember and this mount. Would these two parts be a direct fit for the T5? Seeing some conflicting information regarding the mount.

Thanks!

If you're going to replace, get the torque arm off the transmission and relocate it onto a crossmember. UMI makes those too. Then a rubber transmission mount can be used, and there's less vibration with it.

Re: Proper Transmission mount and Crossmember?

Hmm do you have a transmission mount suggestion that could be used?

That's a heavy chunk of dough to spend at the moment, but if the stock torque arm can be applied to the new crossmember, that would save me some cash till summer...

Re: Proper Transmission mount and Crossmember?

Ever own a third gen with driveline vibration issues? Want to? "Upgrade" parts to others that are going to transmit more vibration. And mess with driveline angles. Like the mount in your first post.

Rubber trans. mounts don't last in third gens because the trans. mounted torque arms lift the trans. Get it off there, and a rubber mount will last. A rubber torque arm mount will too.

A stock mount is a stock mount. You're on the internet.

Ask UMI what's up with stock torque arms and their required bushing. They may not be the right option.

Re: Proper Transmission mount and Crossmember?

Well, I wasn't sure if you were referring to the stock mount or if it is common knowledge that the only rubber mount is a stock one. However I do appreciate you reply!

Thanks for the tip!

Re: Proper Transmission mount and Crossmember?

How is this crossmember and torque arm?

Also, how hard is it to dial in the adjustable torque arm?

Re: Proper Transmission mount and Crossmember?

Cool. And this would be good for overall handling and performance right??

Also, I can't seem to find a rubber torque arm bushing.

Between the two transmission mount bushings that are rubber, which one is generally preferred? I've got a T5

A2394
or
A2360

That video is not the right way to adjust pinion angle. Just sayin'.

Re: Proper Transmission mount and Crossmember?

You began this thread by looking for a new crossmember and a new rubber trans mount for your T5. Did your factory pieces get damaged? But you weren't looking for a torque arm, so your factory torque arm is ok? If so, then instead of spending $500 for that mega kit, you can keep your factory torque arm and relocate it off of the trans with this crossmember. This crossmember will work with your factory torque arm now and forever, or just for now, because it will also work with an aftermarket torque arm, if you ever want to upgrade in the future.
1982-1992 GM F-Body Torque Arm Relocation Kit- T5 & 700R4 - UMI Performance Inc.

You'll have to use the poly bushing listed for it, no choice, but it will be fine because it won't be attached to the trans anymore, and then you'll be able to use a rubber mount for the trans. Here are two pictures from that listing showing the crossmember beneath a T5 with a rubber trans mount. The rubber mount in the pictures looks like the DEA A2394 you linked in one of your above posts.

Re: Proper Transmission mount and Crossmember?

Thanks for the help here.

I ended up ordering the cross member and torque arm, as well as a poly bushing for the torque arm, and the rubber DEA for the transmission.

My thinking is that eventually I will be upgrading the horsepower fairly significantly, (400-500 perhaps) and now that my rear end is going to be much stronger, I figure I might as well get all the components for it while I have everything out.

My rear end should be pretty much done, and I can focus on the front suspension over the Summer.

When I slammed into the curb on the driver side, I feel I shook a lot of parts and that I'd rather have new gear, for piece of mind. However I'll probably keep the stock parts squirrelled away somewhere just in case.
