Help with my Governor!!
Does anyone have a pic of what one looks like, and where is it located? What all needs to be done to have higher shift points and what tools are necessary? Is this something that someone who doesn't know a lot about working on cars should attempt, or should I have my brother there to help me? Thanks for any help.
Or should I just try to find a governor from a 700R4 with similar rear gears?

I use the B&M governor reprogrammer kit which I got from either Summit or Jegs. I cam with several springs and weights to play with your shift points. I am waiting for some warmer weather to actually play with it since it seems to be a trial and error thing. Since I burned my own chip and raised the torque converter lockup to 44 mph my problem isn't near as bad.

I found the hardest part was putting the governor cover back on and the clip that holds it. On mine the cover would only go on somewhat easily one way. Even though it looks round it must have been slightly off so if you have trouble try turning the cover. The other part is the putting the clip back on. Where the clip hooks on top you can't really see so it's a feel type of thing. Once you do it a few times it's not so bad.

Thanks for the visual. I thought I read somewhere that I can just lighten the existing weights that are on there, but only do it a little at a time since you can't add more on. How do I do this?
One more thing, should I even bother with this? I mean I can shift manually and hold to any rpm I want. I'm just trying to pin point why my car is running as slow as it is. I didn't know if the governor being out of whack could contribute to poor performance even if I shift manually. To see what I am talking about, check out my post on the TECH board topic "What the He!! is wrong with my car??" . Any help is appreciated.

After reading your other post in the Tech area I see you have a rebuilt engine. You should try adusting your TV cable to make sure it's set properly. It could be off from when the engine was put back in. That could make your trans shift too early and will also hurt the unit if it's not setup right. I'd wait on the governor kit and see how it is after you adjust the TV cable.
