If your going to get a Mustang shifter (assuming it fits) get a Steeda Triax. My brother has one on his '87 5.0 and its spectacular. It's a rock solid feel.

I had one on mine, but you need to do some work to make it fit. You will need to drill 2 more holes in the base, where it attaches to the trans. The you need to enlarge the 2 rear holes. I found this out after taking it completely apart, only to find that the base for the Mustang shifter is taller. After that, remove the 2 bolts that hold the stem to the base. You need to turn the stem around because otherwise it just hits the side of the console. Plus the fact that you can't use your upper shift boot. Of course, you could just buy a Hurst or B&M shifter and get the same result. But, you are correct. I did like the way it looked. Just a lot of hassle to make it work.
